Japan is located in eastern Asia, east of the Korean Peninsula. It is a chain of islands in between the North Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan.

Japan is 377,915 sq km. This is 4.68% the size of the United States, and slightly smaller than California.

The terrain is mostly rugged and mountainous. The highest mountain is Mt. Fuji. The largest lake is Lake Biwa. The longest river is the Shinano River.

  1. Great pointing out that it is slightly smaller then California. I had though it was much smaller than that. Having lived and driven through much of CA that gives me a better idea of how large Japan actually is.
